TEDGlobal 2011 Wrap-Up

This was originally posted on the TEDxWaterloo blog here.

In July, I had a unique opportunity to take part in TEDGlobal 2011: “The Stuff of Life” in Edinburgh. TEDGlobal, a relatively new program from TED has typically taken place in Oxford (for the initial three years), moved this year to the beautiful city of Edinburgh for the first time. It’s difficult to put into words the experience I had, but I’m going to try.

My New Camera!!!

My New Camera!!!

Well, here she is… Yes, she is sparkly, gold and analog. 35 mm is back! Oh, and there’s no viewfinder. And it’s a fisheye lens. And it cost < $30. Picked it up in Chicago and carried it around for a few days while traveling. Here is what happened: (note, we used some pretty click C-41 yellow/red tinted film – NO PHOTOSHOPPING OF ANY OF THESE).

It’s been a fun experience going back to my roots and doing some analog photography. No second chances since each shot you take uses up a frame of film. Such a huge change from my patterns, but I hope it has a positive influence on my digital photography as well (no more shooting 30 of the same picture just to hope for one good one!)

TEDxWaterloo – Behind the scenes

Well, after months and months of planning, TEDxWaterloo 2011 happened. It was hands down the biggest project I have ever taken on and I could not have done it without the amazing support of our whole team as well as my close friends and family who kept me sane. Not to mention the incredible sponsors in our community that came together to make the event a reality. Update: Full gallery of Christine’s pictures available here (and soon on our flickr page)

THEMUSEUM Studio 54 Party

Wow, if you have not gone to the Museum’s Studio 54 party, you are missing out. The whole place got transformed to a time that is (to be honest) before my days – but incredibly fun no less! Huge thanks to Leo at Brentwood Livery for the night, it was incredible!

photography, philanthropy & pina coladas

Last week, my friend Adam Lanteigne and I held our first ever photography exhibition at The 41, in downtown Kitchener. It was a blast but also a lot more work than either of us realized, giving us a whole new level of respect for real artists that go through this regularly. We raised over $4000 for Grand River Hospital as well as Princess Margaret Hospital thanks to those who purchase art or bid on items in the silent auction. All the photography is available here.

built in 1963…

One of the most beautiful churches I have stepped into. Church of Notre Dame in Paris… Just happened to pass by while on a 12 hour layover coming home from Egypt because of an airline strike. Best strike ever! Thanks Air France… Update: turns out if you are ever looking for an airline that goes on strike a lot, check out Air France, apparently it’s pretty much an annual tradition!
