KW Awesome Foundation Launches

Over the past few months I have had the pleasure of working with Gabrielle & Cate as well as more recently, a team of 12 trustees (Cate is one of them) on launching the KW Awesome Foundation. In a nutshell, the board of trustees gets together every other month, hears pitches about “awesome ideas” (we define awesome as: we know it when we see it) and then awards $1000 to the top idea. A second, $200 prizeis awarded to the “people’s choice” (voted on by the audience).

Last Saturday, a small group of AWESOME people put together a pillow fight in the Uptown Waterloo Public Square. It was advertised quietly but relatively effectively with posters around town and some chatter on Twitter… Update: check out www.kdub.ca for updates on everything else that this great group has been up to. TEDxWaterloo is tomorrow…

Well, in just over 24 hours we will be admitting close to 1000 attendees into Centre in the Square for the second TEDxWaterloo. This event is without a doubt the biggest project I have ever taken on and absolutely one of the most exciting! I’ve had the opportunity to work with a downright amazing team of organizers, all of whom gave up a significant portion of their lives over the last few months to make this thing happen!

I choose to live in Waterloo Region. I don’t live here just because my job is here. I don’t live here just because my family is from Waterloo. I live here because I see the way our region is growing and evolving and I want to be a part of it.

Waterloo Region has the potential to become one of the greatest places in the world to work, play and live. But, we are not quite there yet.
